The KG-2 is the most affordable serious-quality microtonal classical guitar you can buy. It exists so that students, hobbyists, and curious classical guitarists can try Turkish or Arabic microtonal music without committing $2,000+ to find out whether it suits them.
Why a $599 microtonal guitar isn't a compromise
The KG-2 uses the same fretting layout as our $799 KG — Turkish 24-tone equal temperament — built by the same luthiers in Istanbul. The cost reduction comes from a laminated top (vs. solid spruce on the KG) and standard-grade rosewood on the back and sides. For practice and learning, the tonal difference is minor. For concert recording or large-room projection, step up.
Best for
- Students taking their first serious step into Turkish makam or Arabic maqam
- Classical guitarists who want a dedicated practice instrument for microtonal repertoire
- Teachers needing affordable instruments for student loaner programs
- Travel musicians who don't want to risk their main guitar
- Anyone evaluating whether microtonal classical is the right path before a bigger purchase
Not best for
- Concert performers — the laminated top limits projection in larger venues
- Recording professionals — solid-top models (KG, CK-5) record significantly better
- Heavy gigging — for live amplification, the KG-5 is purpose-built for stage use

FAQ
Is the fretting accurate enough to learn properly?
Yes — the fret slot machining is identical to our higher models. The 24-tone equal temperament intervals are precise. What changes at higher price points is tonal quality and resonance, not pitch accuracy.
How long until I outgrow this guitar?
Most students play the KG-2 for 1–3 years before upgrading. If you're playing daily and recording or performing publicly, you may want to upgrade in 6–12 months — the KG's solid top makes a noticeable recording difference.
Can I add a pickup to the KG-2 later?
Yes — a soundhole pickup can be installed by any local luthier. For built-in piezo + EQ from the factory, the KG-5 ($1,499) is the dedicated electric model.
What case does it come with?
A padded gig bag is included. A hardshell case is available as an add-on at checkout.
Trade-in policy if I upgrade?
Email us with your KG-2 order number when ready to upgrade — we offer a trade-in credit toward any KG, KG-5, or CK-5 within 12 months of purchase.
